Barkeria

The more than 100 mainly epiphytic species are widespread in tropical America. The plants have thick, cigar-shaped tubers and the showy flowers are mostly unisexual. The male flowers of some species literally shoot out their pollen packets when the long outgrowths of the columns are touched.
