Temperature: In summer 20 to 25°C. In winter about 15°C.

Location: Bright, but not full sun in summer. Outdoor location possible with appropriate temperatures.

The approximately 150 species are mainly distributed in Mexico and the West Indies, but also with some species in tropical South America. Botanically, the genus can hardly be separated from Cattleya, but due to their great horticultural importance, they are usually kept separately. In contrast to Cattleya, the Encyclia species usually have smaller flowers. Other authors led the genus for a long time as a section of Epidendrum.
