Temperature: Summer: Avoid excessively high temperatures. Nocturnal coolness in Aug./Sep. promotes flowering. Winter: at approx. 15 °C, then no rest period.
Location: As bright as possible. From the beginning of August to the end of September. sheltered outdoor space advantageous.
The genus includes only about 70 species. However, thousands of hybrids have been bred from them. They grow either terrestrial or epiphytic and are distributed in the tropics and subtropics of Asia. The plants have short corms and narrow, leathery leaves. The small flowers are clustered together on erect or overhanging stalks.
