Location: Very bright location. Shade only in extreme sunlight.
The very large genus includes about 400 to 750 species, the information varies with the different authors. Most are native to South America, some in Central America, and only a few in Florida. With a few exceptions, these are epiphytes (tree dwellers) with sprout tubers. The flowers are mostly yellow, but there are also pink, white or brown colored ones. Their size varies between 6 mm and 10 cm. The growth form of the individual species is quite different. There are thin-leaved, thick-leaved, fan-shaped and grass-like growing representatives.
