The genus is certainly one of the most beautiful orchids. It is distributed with over 40 species from Formosa to India and the Philippines as well as to New Guinea and Australia. All have a very short stem with few, mostly broad, leathery leaves. The stem bears one or a few perennial flowers. The Phalaenopsis hybrids are considered to be the most rewarding and easy-care orchids of all.
